Description

"The beauty of Yoga is this: [First,] it does not require anything from outside. Wherever you go, it is always with you. Second, It has nothing to do with any religion: it is a pure, scientific technology.”

Dr. Vijayendra Pratap from the October 31, 2009 program

Dr. Pratap begins this program by discussing Ashtanga (eight-limbed) Yoga according to Patanjali, with an emphasis on the Yamas and Niyamas, the role of Asana, and the importance of intention in one’s practice. In the practical workshop, participants have the opportunity to explore Classical Yoga postures, breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation practices. The philosophy discussion touches on the meaning of Om, the effect of postures on the body, and some valuable lessons he learned as a student in India.

A student of Swami Kuvalayanandaji, Dr. Pratap is the Founder/Director of SKY Foundation; President of the Yoga Research Society; Director of the Yoga Program at the Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine; and author of Beginning Yoga, Yoga Vision, Secrets of Hatha Vidya, and Stories Retold.
