Sri Swami Satchidananda associated with some of the renowned sages of the 20th century including Sri Ramana Maharshi and Sri Aurobindo. In 1949, he was ordained into the monastic life by Sri Swami Sivananda of the Himalayas. He was the Founder/Director of the worldwide Integral Yoga Institutes and the Satchidananda Ashram – Yogaville in Virginia. His universal vision and interfaith programs earned him many honors including the Martin Buber Award for Outstanding Service to Humanity.

Sri Swamiji was the author of many books, including the best-selling Beyond Words illustrated by his student, Peter Max.
